Heading settings define defaults for H1 through H6. Project settings are broad defaults. Book settings can inherit or override them for one book.
Under Publishing > Headings & contents, choose left, center, or right alignment for each heading level. These controls align heading text in the editor and ebook, not the entries in the table of contents.
New headings use the level default. Existing headings keep their alignment. To make one follow the default, open its block settings and select Use heading default. To update every existing heading at one level, select Reset existing beside that level's alignment. Project settings apply the reset across the project; book settings limit it to that book. Choosing an alignment in the floating toolbar overrides the default for that heading, even when you choose left. Reset a book heading row to follow the project again.
A heading preset can fill the H1-H6 names, timing defaults, horizontal-rule timing, normal prose paragraph timing, TOC settings, and section cache level. New blank projects default to the Novel preset unless you choose another preset.
Pre-heading silence is the pause before a heading begins. It plays before any start audio cues. Post-heading silence plays after the heading's start cue and heading audio sequence, before that heading's section content. Post-subtree silence is the pause after that heading's full section subtree has rendered.
The Headings tab also includes rows for horizontal rules and normal prose paragraphs. Paragraph timing applies only to ordinary prose paragraphs, not headings, rules, tables, code blocks, or other special block types.
Audio cues are shown as start-count::end-count. Start cues play after pre-heading silence and before the heading or section begins. End cues play after the heading's rendered audio sequence.
TOC means table of contents. The book icon marks heading levels included in book or ebook output. The headphones icon marks the heading level used for audiobook navigation.
Targets still matter. A heading selected for book TOC should render to book output, and a heading selected for audio TOC should render to audio output.
Administrators manage the preset catalog separately from the managed asset library. Applying a preset to an existing project stages those preset defaults into the project settings.
